Dogs healthy lifestyle facts

Premium food, active lifestyle and love are obviously vital. But you should also study your dog and particularly any changes that might occur, in order to prevent problems as early as possible. Here are some health issues to pay attention to:

Healthy eyes

Healthy eyes are clear and bright with no excretion and no sensitivity to light. Runny eyes should be cleaned regularly with hot water and tissue wiping from inside out.

The ears

You should check and clean the ears regularly. Dogs with big ears should get an airing once in a while; tie the ears up with a hair band for a short while to let the air in!

Teeth and breath

Proper nutrition is the foundation of healthy teeth. Dogs usually maintain their own teeth by chewing on bones or similar, but sometimes it is also good to brush the teeth with a toothpaste for dogs. Healthy breath doesn’t smell bad, so if the odour is unpleasant, the problem might lie in either teeth problems or digestive upset.

Coat maintaining

Healthy coat is thick and shiny, obviously varying from breed to breed. The skin should be free of any dry skin or dandruff. Your dog should get used to regular brushing from an early age for maximum health benefit.

Nail clipping

Your dog’s nails should be checked every so often, and shortened when they curve too much. They should be smooth, and their healthy colour is breed dependent.

Appetite

If your dog stops eating the food it has previously eaten without problem, you should investigate it. If this continues for more than a day, you should consult a vet. Some dogs are just fussy though, especially when trying out new foods.

Feces

The excrements are a fine way of learning about your dog’s health issues. Normal stool should be normal looking and consistency, with no runs or mucus when passed.

Activity

Your dog should get as much exercise as possible; preferably at least in the morning, afternoon and evening. Drowsiness is not normal for a dog. If he has his head and tail down and is too tired to move around normally, something could be wrong and might need to get checked by a vet.
